But what IS my life purpose?
Your Life Purpose May NOT Be What You Do For A Living
A lot of people talk about life purpose as a career, but it may NOT be what you do for a paycheck. Sometimes a life purpose is a career, but sometimes it is not. It’s important to note that some people have a life purpose to be a parent. Or to exist in a job that they don’t love because they uplift and inspire those around them. Have you ever noticed the janitor that smiles and says hello to you EVERY morning? Chances are that he/she doesn’t LOVE cleaning toilets, but this particular janitor’s life purpose may be to spread joy. We get so wrapped up in what people do for a living that we often miss the point. Life purpose is about how you touch the lives of others. This can be your family, it can be strangers, customers, clients, co-workers. And it CAN be what you get PAID to do for a living, but it doesn’t HAVE to be that way.
What IS My Purpose?
If you don’t know how to find your purpose, I’ll help with that. Here’s an exercise that will shed some light on that for you:
Imagine that you are on your deathbed, surrounded by loved ones and you are reflecting on your life. Now, ask yourself the following questions:
- What did you not fulfill in your life that you feel incomplete about? What do you regret not doing?
- What do you feel most proud of? What are you at peace with and feel most accomplished about?
By tuning in and getting answers to these two questions, you will learn a LOT about your life purpose. You will also be able to make decisions that will change the outcome of your current deathbed scene. Do you regret not writing that book that you always wanted to write? Now is your opportunity to do that, or anything else that you find that you feel unfulfilled about. Your story is being written every day and has only been written up to today. What do you want to include in your life story that has yet to happen? Are you doing the things that will get you there? If not, take some time to reassess and implement a plan to make it happen.
YOU have the power to change the course of your life. If you were not at peace with what you saw in your deathbed scene today, go out and change it!
